Week 7

Class Recap

This week in class class we went over the next assignment, as well as watched a few demos regarding the traditional Japanese hand stitched books. I myself spent the rest of the class trying to master the tortoise shell pattern.

I found this style of binding to be particularly exciting to learn, as someone who has a growing interest in textiles. The finished products were beautiful and very delicate in feel despite being robust in actual binding. I have no doubt precision will be key, both in measurement and actual threading.

I think I need to make the holes bigger as I found myself constantly battling to pull my needle completely through.

Here was the result! Not bad for a first try, but lots of improvement to be had too. Practice makes perfect as they say.

 An Extra Note:

Over reading week I had picked out this picture I had saved in a photo album. It's of me, flying with my grandpa as his offical copilot in the old Cessna 180. After understanding the assignment better however I'm considering changing it to a different photo, but regardless I think it's a fun image to share :)
