Altered Book Progress

Progress Update

After some thorough discussion with my peers within the class, I realized out that my ideas, while all individually strong and meaningful, when expressed from my mind out loud, they lacked a clear connection.
Thinking it over a bit more and making some adjustments will better strengthen the project as a whole cohesive piece.

ALTERATIONS

        - Instead of using a random book with no real meaning attached to the words, and trying to find a means of further stripping them of attention, I've shifted to a book series "Chicken Soup For The Soul". These words have a far greater connection to not only the themes of the gestural art, in the observation of people and place, but ties it back to my family, as a series my mom would collect and also read for me sometimes.

        - I intend to utilize the text, and write small encouraging poems out of the words on each page under the gestural sketch, by emphasizing them somehow.  This ties back to my goal of it referencing the fine motor books my mom and grandma made. Highlighter was my go to but I'm looking into something maybe more soft, less neon.

        - I plan hand embroider the fabric covers with the title of the creation, which is still in the works, but likely referencing about fine motor skill, encouragement, appreciation, something to help further draw the lines between the themes I want to connect.

        - Striving for a very delicate feeling to this book, tender, I want it not only to represent something soft, vulnerable but to feel it as well physically.

I've found some lovely inspiration for fabric and textile work in another blog: http://theslightlymadquiltlady.blogspot.com. by Charlotte Scott.

The blog also contains a beginner tutorial for bookwork in textiles, and some of the important things to note, which as someone who has not tried there hand at a a lot of textile art, I'm wildly appreciative.

I've also found her featured work to be endearing, and very much so inspiring for future projects.
